Early skin cancer detection

Since 1 July 2008, the statutory health insurance funds have offered qualified early skin cancer detection and cover the costs for this.

All persons with statutory health insurance from the age of 35 are entitled to this service.

This examination is a preventive service that can be carried out as part of the three-yearly health examination or as an individual service every two years.

The examination itself includes a thorough physical examination including the scalp, visible mucous membranes, the genital area and the nails. Therefore, please note that the skin cancer screening cannot be performed with painted nails and that you have to undress completely.
